Get Your CIBIL Report Free Online: 3 Legitimate Ways

Mar 24, 20264 min read

You don't need to pay for your CIBIL report. There are three legitimate, free routes to access your full credit information - each with different limits and use cases.

Route 1: CIBIL's Free Annual Report (Official)

Every Indian consumer is entitled to one free CIBIL report per year, directly from TransUnion CIBIL.

Steps:

  1. Go to cibil.com → "Get a Free CIBIL Score & Report"
  2. Register with PAN, date of birth, mobile, email
  3. Answer 3–5 verification questions about your past loans / credit cards
  4. Receive the full report by email in 10 minutes

Limits: One free report per calendar year. Subsequent reports cost ₹550–₹2,200 depending on plan.

Route 2: Through Your Bank's App

Most major banks now show your CIBIL score inside their mobile banking app, refreshed monthly. No charge.

BankWhere in App
HDFC BankNet Banking → Loans → Free CIBIL
ICICI BankiMobile → My CIBIL Score
SBIYONO → Loans → CIBIL Check
Axis BankAxis Mobile → Manage → CIBIL Score
KotakKotak Mobile → Service Requests → Free Score

This is a "soft enquiry" - does not impact your score.

Route 3: Free Aggregator Services

Paisabazaar, BankBazaar, OneScore, CRED, Cashe and similar apps offer free CIBIL or Experian score checks. Two caveats:

  • Most show Experian, not CIBIL - directionally accurate but not the exact number
  • They share your details with their lender partners (which is how the service stays free)

If you're comfortable receiving loan offer calls, this is the most convenient route.

What to Look For in the Report

  • Account section - every loan and card you've ever held; flag anything you don't recognise
  • Enquiry section - every hard enquiry in the last 24 months; more than 4 in 6 months hurts your score
  • Personal information - verify PAN, address, phone all match
  • Settled/written-off accounts - these depress your score by 50–100 points; resolve them with the lender

How to Dispute Errors

If you find an error (wrong loan, wrong status, duplicate entry):

  1. File a dispute on cibil.com → "Dispute Resolution"
  2. CIBIL contacts the reporting lender within 30 days
  3. If valid, the correction reflects in 15–30 days

Errors on credit reports are more common than people think - estimated 1 in 5 reports has at least one inaccuracy. Worth a 30-minute audit annually.
